One of the first objectives in his five year term with the Hamilton Port
Authority was to wake up the sleepy Harbour Commissioners mentality and
bring operations into step with current business practices. This involved
substantial renovation and redevelopment of derelict buildings and brownfields
while working closely with tenants and the City of Hamilton Economic
Development Department. Together we promoted the City and the Port at
international and national trade fairs and conferences. There is an ongoing
balancing act between Commercial use versus Waterfront redevelopment for
recreational and community use which requires considerable consultation and
negotiation to achieve an acceptable compromise. Keith is very proud of
seeing the Port Authority partner with Steelcare on the Plant 19 project which
became the first Gold LEED industrial building in Canada. This is the first one
in a port in North America and is owned by the port. |
